Unicode 1.1 was released in June 1993 and updated to Unicode 1.1.5 in July 1995. The previous version was Unicode 1.0 and the next version is Unicode 2.0.

In many ways, Unicode 1.1 is really the first version of "real" Unicode, as it was the first version to be coextensive with ISO/IEC 10646-1.

Unicode 1.1.5 was not formally a separate version of the standard, but was given a new number primarily to reflect that it is the first version to provide a publicly available on-line version of a data file for the Unicode Character Database.

Unicode 1.1 constituted the addition of all further characters resulting from the merger with ISO/IEC 10646-1. It is defined as
