A famous, sought-after Hollywood actress, model, and producer.
Biography
Born on March 10, 1958, in Meadville, Pennsylvania (USA), to a colourman named Joseph Stone and an accountant named Dorothy Stone. She has an older brother Michael, younger sister Kelly and younger brother Patrick. Graduated from Saegertown High School in Saegertown, Pennsylvania. At age 15, studied Creative Writing and Fine Arts at Edinboro State University of Pennsylvania and successfully graduated.
Intelligent, with an IQ of 154, and also very beautiful (5' 7", gray-blue eyes and blond hair) - at age 17 won the Miss of Pennsylvania contest. Stone was convinced that there's more to it and two years later she began a succesful career as a model in New York. She worked for Eileen Ford's model agency, appearing in magazines such as Vogue, Elle, and didn't spare her naughty bits in Playboy.
It took 12 years for Stone as an actress to reach the famous Hollywoord stardom level. Her first role was a non-speaking part as a beautiful woman fleetingly glimpsed from a moving train in Woody Allen's Stardust Memories (1980). Stone starred in many small screen movies and made guest appearances in several series. Through the 80's, Stone appeared as a stereotypical blonde in mostly forgettable roles (see filmography below).
Stone first became noticable in her part along with Arnold Schwarzenegger as a kick-boxing, secret agent "wife" in Paul Verhoeven's unforgettable SciFi actioner Total Recall (1990). After yet five more forgettable thrillers and comedies, she finally achieved the proverbial "overnight" stardom as a sexually voracious crime writer opposite Michael Douglas in Verhoeven's controversial and popular erotic thriller, Basic Instinct (1992). Her pantie-less leg-crossing scene brought Stone much-needed notoriety and attention, but has haunted her ever since.
In a more conventionally sympathetic role, Stone followed up with another sizzling sex melodrama, Sliver (1993), which did middling business stateside but proved a solid success overseas. Trying to escape the sex-bomb trap, she begged for the frigid wife role in Intersection (1994), which met with limited success. She again flexed her international box-office clout paired with Sylvester Stallone in the explosive actioner The Specialist (1994) but fared much less well commercially with her next project, The Quick and the Dead (1995), which marked her producing debut. She rebounded with her widely acclaimed performance as Ginger, the Vegas hustler who wins the heart of Robert De Niro, in Casino (1995).
Stone was married to Phil Bronstein, a newspaper editor, on Valentine's Day, 1998. These two got separated in 2003. The couple adopted a baby boy together in 2000, named Roan Joseph Bronstein. This is the second marriage for Sharon, who was previously married to associate producer Michael Greenburg, from 1984 to 1987. Stone has already been romantically linked to singer Dwight Yoakam and actor/comedian Garry Shandling. The highly-paid star, founded her own production company, Chaos, and co-produced The Quick and the Dead (1995). Stone, who lives in a gated French chateau in Beverly Hills, is a diva who thoroughly enjoys her hard-won stardom, is a clever manipulator of her public image. On heavy press days, she reportedly changes outfits between each interview and photo session, a practice unheard of since the days of Joan Crawford and Norma Shearer.
Sharon Stone is known to have said:
"Women might be able to fake orgasms. But men can fake whole relationships."
