Seiyuu 声優
Seiyuu are
Japanese Voice Actors, and "voice actor" is what it literally translates to. Because of the vast popularity of
anime in Japan, seiyuu are most often associated with the dubbing of anime characters as opposed to live action dubbing. In
Japan, the seiyuu are the stars. Some can prop up an inferior anime production just by the force of their presence (if not their acting) within a series or movie. In general I think many seiyuu deserve this
recognition, there are some fantastic actors among them, whose skills rival any other "
Live Action" actor you can choose to name. Most seiyuu tend not to limit themselves to just acting in anime, the more
famous ones also appear in live action films and series and in particular with the female seiyuu they inevitably release
j-pop music albums, many of which go to the
top of the charts.
Some anime series (for example
Neon Genesis Evangelion) construct a very strong link between the anime character and the seiyuu. In
Evangelion almost all of the characters share the same
birthday and
blood type as their Seiyuu, for example
Asuka Langley Sohryu has the blood type,
O, and is born on
December 4 the same as her seiyuu
Miyamura Yuuko.
This is a listing of all of the seiyuu that have been added to the
e2 database so far. If you find any that I have missed could you please /msg me so that I can add it. Likewise if you add a new seiyuu write-up /msg me and I'll add that as well.
Becuase there is no set naming convention of everything2 when it comes to writing
Japanese names (i.e. the Western
First Name then
Last Name versus the Japanese
Last Name then
First Name) I shall just list the names as they are written in the various write-ups. This list is very much a work is progress. There are hundreds of popular seiyuu yet hardly any of them have been
noded, so please if you do node any, or find any, please let me know.
