Kotono Mitsuishi came into the spotlight on the back of the "idol seiyuu boom" that occurred in Japan in the beginning of the 1990s. Her big break came when she took the role of Tsukino Usagi(Sailor Moon) in the anime Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon. During the same period she became involved with Idol Defence Force Humming Bird, this anime really increased her general popularity because it heavily promoted its seiyuu as a "real life" idol group. Kotono Mitsuishi is generally recognised for her loud and energetic style of voice acting and this came in handy when she got the role that she is most famous form, Misato Katsuragi from Neon Genesis Evangelion. One of Kotono Mitsuishi's specialities is her ability to talk extremely fast.
