The pleasure of eating honey butter is as
simple and
straightforward as the ingredients necessary.
Honey.
Butter.
Honey Butter.
From one part honey, you get a warm natural sweetness. From 2 parts butter, you get a smooth
medium which distributes the sweetness over your
bread or food of choice with even
precision. If your butter is salted, well, everyone knows how a little touch of
salt can make
hot chocolate or
hot cocoa taste that much sweeter.
My
mother usually let the butter (sometimes
margarine) sit out overnight to let it soften, after which she'd add the honey and blend it with a
mixer. She made honey butter a staple of
family picnics in my youth. Over
sweet rolls,
sourdough or
cornbread, honey butter was
something she could not make enough of.
