The first album that The Sisters of Mercy released was First and Last and Always in 1985.
Some Girls Wander by Mistake collects singles and EPs from before that. It was released in 1992 (after the band was pretty much dead), so it is the Sisters of Mercy's earliest work on official release, but is not their earliest album. IMHO it is some of their finest music.
The track listing is as follows:
- Alice
- Floorshow
- Phantom
- 1969
- Kiss the carpet
- Lights
- Valentine
- Fix
- Burn
- Kiss the carpet (reprise)
- Temple of love (extended version)
- Heartland
- Gimme Shelter
- The damage done
- Watch
- Home of the hit-men
- Body electric
- Adrenchrome
- Anaconda
The title is from Teachers, which like the song The Sisters of Mercy is by Leonard Cohen.
Unfortunately it does not contain their mind-boggling early cover of Dolly Parton's Jolene, but does contain good covers of The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter and The Stooges' 1969.
