(Greenland Inuit: "forward")

Political party active in the Danish autonomous region of Greenland.

Siumut began in 1976 as scattered local voter associations, and was formally founded as a party the following year. Siumut's political platform is social democratic, anti-EU and in favour of expanding regional autonomy, with a view to eventual indpendence for Greenland.

From its founding, Siumut has been one of the largest parties in Greenland, and has enjoyed representation in the Landsr├ąd, the Landsting, and the Danish Folketing. Since regional autonomy was introduced, in 1979, Siumut has held continual leadership in Greenland, with varying coalition partners.
