The "
Internet Keyboard" is a
scary trend in the
world of
OEM computers these days. These are
useless keys added and
slopped the
buzzword of "
Internet" on. They
typically do
dumb things like
control volume or
launch IE. Such
contraptions are
implemented in
software, whose
processes run in the
background,
wasting valuable RAM, which is
particularly of the essence when you're running
Windows.
The scary part is many OEMs advertise these keyboards as features. Pretty soon, mindless consumers will think they need an "Internet Keyboard", refusing to buy a computer without one.
As one who uses the
Happy Hacking Keyboard, which
sports only 60 keys, I would rather
die than use one. Then again I try to stay away from those
wacky OEM computers when I can.
