One of America's most prolific comedic actresses of the 50s and 60s.

Her first feature film was as Georgia Garrett in 1948's ROMANCE ON THE HIGH SEAS.

In 1953, Doris starred in the title role in CALAMITY JANE. The film was a success and more followed - LUCKY ME , THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH , and PILLOW TALK (with Rock Hudson) kept up her popularity with audiences.

She was an all singing, all-acting extravaganza. Seriously.

And she has become a lesbian icon over the past few decades.

Real name: Doris Mary Ann Von Kapplehoff. Was dubbed Doris Day when a song she sang became popular yet she remained relatively obscure, so people only remembered her first name and the fact that the song had the word "day" in the title.

She dreamed of being a professional dancer, but injuries she suffered in a car accident made that impossible. She turned to singing and had a flourishing career as a big band singer before she got into motion pictures.
