This pop standard first appeared in the 1944 movie And the Angels Sing, performed by actress Dorothy Lamour. The tune has later been recorded by, among others, Chet Baker, Shirley Bassey, Perry Como, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Count Basie, Chick Corea, Miles Davis, Doris Day, Peggy Lee and Robert Palmer. Oh, and not to forget, Vera Lynn.

sighmoan says It happened to June Christy, too - that's my favorite version, arranged by Pete Rugolo.

The music is written by Jimmy Van Heusen, the lyrics by Johnny Burke (1944).

Hide your heart from sight,
Lock your dreams at night,
It could happen to you!
Don't count stars or you might stumble,
Someone drops a sigh and down you tumble...

Keep an eye on spring,
Run when church bells ring,
It could happen to you!
All I did was wonder how your arms would be,
And it happened to me...

It could happen to you...
All I did was wonder how your arms would be,
And it happened to me...

This line used to say I'd like it to happen to me. Then it did. Must have worked or something :)
