DTP games are created by
game developers and
designers using a personal computer and printer to manufacture the final product.
The advent and spread of these
techologies has opened the door to many
game designers and
developers who would probably not think to have thier crations spread beyond a small circle of friends. Where once a physical boundry existed between the games creator and possible players there is now an open
distribution channel via
DTP and the
Net.
Often these are
freeware or
shareware products. Many of these games are distributed in
PDF or
HTML format alowing the players to do the actual production themselves.
Groups like the
Microgame Design Group have sprung up to help organize budding game makers, get them exposure in the
gaming community, and possibly move them on to commerical ventures.
