The start of the Gay Rodeo Association may have began in the hearts of calf ropers and
bronco riders many years prior but in
1976 Reno,
Nevada hosted the
National Reno Gay Rodeo and a
dynasty was born. The momentum from this event spurred on local gay rodeo associations to be formed in
Colorado,
Texas,
California, and
Arizona. 1985 saw
Oklahoma join a new confederacy which would be called The International Gay Rodeo Association (
IGRA). Today 20 regional Gay Rodeo Associations form the IGRA.
