In Judaism, the number 8 is indicative of the
supernatural because 8 is the next integer larger than
7, the
Sabbath, or the day
G-d completed the
Creation. In those seven days G-d created the
heavens,
earth,
land,
water,
sun,
moon,
stars,
flora,
reptiles,
sea life,
amphibians (not
explicitly mentioned),
freaks of nature like the duck-billed platypus,
birds, and mammals, culminating with
Woman. Beyond the seven days of the Natural lies the Supernatural.
In gematriah, or Hebrew numerology, eight represents the letter chet, the eigth letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Chet is pronounced with a guttural tone on the 'ch', a property not found in the English language.
