Technicaly, this is a Japanese form of onomatopiea describing the sound that a feline makes when it purrs. It's been used as a pun in wacky animes such as Tenshi ni Narumon.

In the strange, hilarious anime known as Kyatto Ninden Teyandee, Pururun is the name of a cute female feline character who is part of a crime-fighting team together with Yattaro and Sukashii. Pururun tends to have a rather fiesty attitude, finding it perfectly fine to slap Yattaro around with a frying pan from time to time. She helps to operate a pizza shop in the heart of Edoropolis, and is apparently quite a good cook. Her symbol and mantra seem to be that of love, reflected by hearts that appear everywhere around her (i.e. on clothing, weapons, etc). Pururun is well trained in the arts of Ninjitsu, and actually uses heart-shaped throwing stars and a dagger to attack her enemies.

Pururun was known as Polly Esther in the American version of Kyatto Ninden Teyandee, Samurai Pizza Cats.

Personally, I wouldn't want to mess with her,though ;)
