To every thing there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under heaven;
A time to be born,
and a time to die;
a time to plant,
and a time to pluck up that which was planted.
- Ecclesiastes 3:1,2 KJV
A passage of
scripture taken from the
Bible. These and next six verses were made
popular in the
1960s by a folk/rock group known as the
Byrds with a song known as
Turn Turn Turn.
The author of the piece,
Solomon, wrote the book as an
investigation into
life as a whole. His recognition of the changing of
time as an event and time as a purpose to do certain
things or
ideas is the major
theme in the third chapter.
