Serial Experiments Lain (thing)

I just finished watching 'em all on DVD, and the number of geek references continues to astound me...in addition to all the Apple Computer-centric ones listed above, I note the following couple for example:

• 2010:The Year We Make Contact. When the MiB ask their boss from Tachibana General Labs (who's now gone into the Wired), "What's going to happen?" He replies "Something wonderful."
• Tron. This may be a stretch, but at the very end of the series, just as the credits are finishing, the words

  E N D   O F   L A I N

  flash across the middle of the screen before blinking and fading. The Master Control Program used to close transmissions and conversations like that, with the phrase 'End of line.'

Let me add my heartfelt recommendation that you not watch this if you like things spelled out for you. It is, as it has been described and more: confusing, stunning, stylized, nonlinear, complex, beautiful.
