In the 1980's in
America, the
country experienced a short-lived
obsession with the
Japanese art of
ninjitsu, also known as
ninja (this actually references to the
practitioners of
ninjitsu). In fact, the
fad also included other Japanese
martial arts, including
karate. The
fad spawned many things, including:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (actually a pretty cool show)
Countless American Ninja movies, all horrid
The Karate Kid (Mr. Miyagi was cool, Daniel wasn't)
Beverly Hills Ninja (that was a bit later, but I still include this)
There are many others, I just can't think of them all right now.
Quite an interesting fad. Ninjas sure look pretty cool, but as a practical self defense martial art, it probably doesn't do too much. It did however cause massive increases in enrollment at martial art dojos around the country.
They get cool uniforms too. I want one of suits. They rock. With the mask and boots and shit.
