The advice or the opinion given to you by a doctor other than your own family doctor or consulting physician,when you think the latter might be wrong or when you prefer to get extra information.
Second opinions are often suggested by a doctor in complicated / unusual cases. Human beings seem to be quite complicated & if nothing else the patient gets the nice feeling that eveyone actually cares.
