Maillot is the fancy term for a one-piece swimsuit. Though not considered too interesting in its basic form, it is very modest, and looks good on a wide range of body types. In addition, the maillot serves as the basic form for many other kinds of swimsuits, including the legendary monokini.

Indeed, many people can look absolutely stunning in a maillot-type swimsuit, especially designs modeled after mid-20th century fashions, such as those with square-cut legs and polka dots. Conversely, nobody looks good in the day-glo colors of the '90s.
