The
Norwegian Flag's current form was defined by law of December 10, 1898 (while
Norway was still in
union with
Sweden). It is a blue and white cross on a red background, in the style of many other
European flags. The flag was made by superimposing a blue cross on the
Danish flag (Norway was in
union with
Denmark for 400 years, until 1814).
Here is a drawing of the flag, with relative dimensions noted to the left and bottom. The inner cross should be blue, the outer cross white on a red background (the exact opposite of the Icelandic flag).
