A series of
educational movies that
featured
inner city children dealing with situations that were difficult for educators to explain to children about without context. Some examples include :
I was in grade 1 when I first saw The Kids of
Degrassi Street. I remember sitting on the floor of my
classroom picking
staples out of the
carpet and watching my
teacher wrestle with a
stubborn projector.
Considering that it was produced in
Canada during the late
1970s and early
80s when the
quality of
Canadian film was
worse than imaginable, Degrassi was very popular among
guidance counselors and
teachers when they chose their
curriculum. Students
remembered the
values and
characters in the movies and the series was eventually spun off to two
TV Shows,
Degrassi Jr. High and then
Degrassi High.
