Creator (well, architect and lead programmer) of the computer game Creatures. Originally worked at Millennium Interactive, and moved from there to their subsidiary Cyberlife, (now Creature Labs).

Married to Ann Grand, with a son Christopher Grand. Lives in Shipham, Somerset, England.

He began programming in 1977. He currently works from home for his company Cyberlife Research, doing the job of a "Digital God", as he puts it.

He wrote Creation: Life and how to make it, and is currently working on his second book.

He recieved an OBE in 1999. The Sunday Times listed him as one of the eighteen "brains behind the twentieth century". He has no formal qualifications, but Cardiff University gave him an honorary research fellowship.
