was one of the best pitchers in baseball
during the 1990s
and early 2000s
, and also one of the meanest. Even Brown's own teammates wouldn't talk to him on a days he was pitching because of how mean he would get, and one time Brown's famous nasty comments to a reporter brought the man to tears.
After 1996 Brown was statistically one of four best pitchers in the game for almost a decade. The Georgia-born fireballer terrorized hitters of all stripes with an array of sliders, sinkers, and changeups, thrown from a variety of arm angles and set up by a 95 mph fastball with incredible movement typically described as "filthy."
Brown was the ace of back-to-back World Series teams with the Marlins in 1997 and the Padres in 1998. Brown threw a no-hitter against the Giants in 1997.
