Many so called big bands, that have been a huge success in the past, but are now a falling star, have a tendency to release "Greatest Hits" collections with a few years intervalls. This is usually done because they can't come up with any good new material, but still wan't to get in all the cash they possibly can as long as at least SOMEONE still remebers they were once a hit. Usually these type of albums contain one or two new songs as a "bonus", and the same hits that were on their last "Greatest Hits" collection released 2 years earlier.

Another thing all together are bands that have had one or two big hits, and released maybe one full length studio album. Then they release a "Greatest Hits" album that is full of songs that no one has ever heard of, and the poor teenager who was stupid enough to buy it throws it away after listening to it for maybe two times.
