'Mother Earth' and the daughter of Chaos. She was the mother and wife of Uranus (Father Heaven). From earth and heaven the earliest living creatures - the Titans, the Cyclopes, and the Giants (the Hecatoncheires, 'Hundred-Headed Ones') - were conceived.

Enormous, if somewhat witless, creatures. They stormed
Mount Olympus and openly battled the gods. It was divined that only with the help of a mortal could the Olympians defeat these monsters so they called in Heracles - he took care of business.
