(German name:Drau)
Tributary river of the Danube (Donau), with its source in the Dolomite Mountains of Northern Italy. The Drava runs through Austria and Slovenia, forms part of the border between Croatia and Hungary, and meets the Danube 150 km NW of Belgrade (Beograd). It is 719 km long, and navigable for 610 km. At its widest, the Drava is 325 m wide.
With its intricately winding course, the Drava is in many places regulated, particularly in the marshy regions of Croatia. In every country through which it flows, the Drava is utilised for hydroelectric power. A third of Austria's hydroelectric power derives from the Drava alone.
