bixie /bik'see/ n.

Variant emoticons used on BIX (the BIX Information eXchange). The most common (smiley) bixie is <@_@>, representing two cartoon eyes and a mouth. These were originally invented in an SF fanzine called APA-L and imported to BIX by one of the earliest users.

A currently trendy haircut (again), the bixie combines elements of both the pixie and the bob styles, as one might expect based on the name. It is characterized by its layered and textured appearance, offering a versatile look that can be styled in various ways (such as adding bangs or varying the length) but the fundamental structure is defined by the haircut itself. The bixie typically features shorter lengths in the back, similar to a pixie, while maintaining longer strands in the front akin to a bob, and thus impossible to confuse with a mullet. This unique blend allows for an aesthetic that can suit different face shapes and personal styles.

To maintain a bixie haircut, it is recommended to get a trim every 6 to 12 weeks. This regular maintenance helps to keep the shape and texture of the cut looking fresh and prevents it from becoming unruly as it grows out. The more frequent trims in the range are recommended for straight hair whereas curly or wavy hair can opt for less frequent maintenance.
