American comedian and political activist, born Oct. 12, 1932, St. Louis, Mo. Author of such controversial titles as "Nigger", "Up From Nigger", "No More Lies" and "Dick Gregory's Political Primer."

It's been said that George Carlin's career began by embracing and extending Lenny Bruce's material. The same could be said of Richard Pryor from Dick Gregory.

A week prior to his death, Gregory was hospitalized in Washington, D.C., with a bacterial infection. He died at the hospital in Washington, D.C., on August 19, 2017, at the age of 84. The cause was heart failure.
