Class AAA farm team of the Chicago White Sox, located (at least in spirit) in Charlotte, NC. Members of the International League Southern Division. Play at Knights Castle in Fort Mill, South Carolina, just across the state line from Charlotte.

The Knights moved from the Class AA Southern League in 1993, coinciding with major league expansion, as Cleveland Indians affiliates. The next year, during the major league strike, the Knights and Richmond Braves engaged in a down to the wire battle for first place of what was then the IL West, and were featured in Sports Illustrated. I was at The Diamond when Tyler Houston hit a home run over the right field wall in the eighth inning to clinch the division for the R-Braves. Since then, they've switched first to affiliation with the Florida Marlins, and now to the Chicago White Sox.

Their future is in question due to the desire of prominent Charlotteans' (most of them bankers) desire for a major league team.
