An
extraordinary series documenting the
history of
Canada from when
mankind first set
foot on
North America to
the present day.
Produced by the
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and airing concurrently on both the main
CBC television network and the
Radio-Canada television network as
Canada: une histoire populaire (and later repeated on
Newsworld and
RDI).
In addition to the 32
hour documentary series there is also a two volume
book,
DVD and
video sets,
soundtrack CD and two mulitmedia
websites www.cbc.ca/history (English) and
radio-canada.ca/histoire/ (French).
The documentary style is similar to the
Ken Burns films using
historical reenactmants,
photographs,
voice-overs and, in episodes set in the
20th century,
film footage and commentary from people who were witness to the actual events.
