The official starting date of the Armenian Genocide. On April 24th, 1915, the Young Turk government of The Ottoman Empire summoned, gathered, and hanged several hundred Armenian leaders in its capital of Istanbul. From this point on, for the next eight years, a total of 1.5 million Armenians were murdered and another 1 million were deported from their native homeland of centuries.

On this date every year, Armenians around the world gather to commemorate the first genocide of the twentieth century.

1750 Samuel Johnson on "Anger; Pride"

"Pride is undoubtedly the original of anger; but pride, like every other passion, if it once breaks loose from reason, counteracts its own purposes. A passionate man,* upon the review of his day, will have very few gratifications to offer to his pride, when he has considered how his outrages were caused, why they were borne, and in what they are likely to end at last." Johnson: Rambler #11
