Marillion's first
album released in
1983.
By the time this album came out, Marillion were already very popular in Britain, with a hit single, ("Market Square Heroes") and an impressive amount of gigging.
Script became a pretty popular album, with the UK hits of the title track and ("Garden Party"). It's a fun album, but you can tell the band is young and their best days lie ahead of them. It's classic prog with an early 80s twist. A few long songs, and Fish's epic lyrics.
And of course, you can't forget the Mark Wilkinson cover, a painting of a crying jester playing a violin with all sorts of other stuff around his dingy room. And everything means something.
