I painted my toenails red
for the first official day of summer.
I tried to buy an Almond Joy candy bar
for my husband,
but the candy aisle had everything else,
so instead I picked up a new prescription
and a salve for myself which my doctor said,
"Put it on everything that irritates you."
(60 grams, not nearly enough,
even when applied sparingly).
On a whim, I purchased a Boston Fern
for my front porch; the tag showed
on the care meter, it was between delicate
and resilient, tolerant of light and shade.
The cashier said they never die.
