A hilarious parody of the old Beat The Clock television game show, performed by the Firesign Theatre on their classic 1968 comedy record, Waiting for the Electrician, or Someone Like Him.
In this routine, the protagonist wanders about in a typical acid-inspired Firesign adventure in which he attempts to escape an anonymous eastern European country. (The Turkish language lessons that start and finish the piece offer some clues). In one segment, the man winds up on a game show called Beat The Reaper, in which contestants are injected with a fatal disease and provided ten seconds to guess the disease based on their symptoms.
The creators of this bit were remarkably prophetic, when one considers current television shows such as Fear Factor. Only the contestants on that show don't actually get too close to certain death.
