A few facts about ET:
- The game being played in the beginning of E.T. is none other than Dungeons and Dragons (where they send Elliot, the kid. out to get stuff).
- The girl sibling in the movie is played by none other than a very young, yet still quite adoreable Drew Barrymore. Both Drew Barrymore and costar Erika Elaniak would later pose for Playboy.
- Harrion Ford's wife, Melissa Mathison, the screenwriter, was also cast to play the nurse, and Harrison was to play the school principle. Those scenes got cut when they felt they were not up to par, and overall too distracting.
- E.T. put out in 1982, was the largest grossing film (at $400 million) for many years until being beaten by Titanic, Star Wars (after two releases), and The Phantom Menace.
- ET won many Oscars including, Best Original Musical Score, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Effects Editing, and Best Sound.
- Original VHS casettes were molded in green plastic as to make video pirating more difficult.
- Speilberg screened the film in person for President Reagan.
- The E.T. video game for Atari is considered one of the biggest video game flops in all of history
- M&Ms were supposed to be ET's original food, but Mars pulled their support when they thought it would be a flop. Resse's pieces did amazingly well that year, due to the plug from the movie.
- E.T. had several working titles (pre-production): A Boy's Life, E.T. and Me, and Night Skies
