A mild
sedative, it was on the market for a few years in the
1950s before being withdrawn. During early
pregnancy the formation of limbs was adversely affected, resulting in
congenital deformity. Several
victims' associations exist.
The drug is now being researched for possible uses in fighting
AIDS, where it seems to reduce weight loss.
