Biological name: Amaranthus caudatus

Description: As m_turner and I toured the yuppie-infested Farmer's Market of north Fresno, we happened upon a plant that had dramatic dangling ropes of wine red blooms, hence the name Love Lies Bleeding. They can grow to a height of 4 feet, with the red strands ranging from 1-3 feet-pretty impressive, eh?

Environment: Natives of Asia, Love Lies Bleeding grows best in hot, dry conditions.

More info: Love Lies Bleeding is an antique annual- it's been grown in Britain since the late 1500s.
