The meaning of Skagit is unfortunately lost, but a county and river in Washington State are
named afte this Northwest Washington tribe. It is also the name of a Skagit/Kalama class
ferry, in the service of the Washington State Ferry system, which was built in New
Orleans, Louisiana in 1989.
