The industrial drummer Martin Atkins was born in Coventry, England on August 3rd, 1959.
His first exposure as a drummer was with John Lydon's post-Sex Pistols band, Public Image Ltd., which he left on unpleasant terms. He formed his industrial supergroup, Pigface, immediately afterwards, out of frustration with the way P.I.L. was handled and a desire to make collaboration easier on artists.
Over the next decade, he performed with many bands, the bigger names including Ministry, Killing Joke (whom he formed Murder Inc. with in 1992), and Nine Inch Nails. He later worked on a very well-received project called Damage Manual with Chris Connelly, Jah Wobble, and Geordie from Killing Joke. But his dedication to his label Invisible Records, and his incredible drumming work with his collaborative group Pigface has prevented him from pursuing it further.
In addition to the aforementioned groups, Atkins has also worked with the following artists:
(NOTE: This list does not include the many artists that worked as Pigface. see that node for a list of artists who have worked with Atkins under that name)
