Freddy vs Jason...
Jason vs Freddy...
A nightmare on Friday the 13th...

Whatever the title would be, it would be a dream come true for every fan of slasher films. Will it ever see the light of day? Nobody really knows for sure at this moment in time.

Back in 1997, the first rumors surfaced about a movie which would star Jason Voorhees from the Friday The 13th movies, and Freddy Krueger from the Nightmare On Elm Street flics. The movie would probably be produced by New Line Cinema, since they have the rights to publish both series, and Robert Englund and Kane Hodder would reprise their roles as Freddy and Jason, respectively.
At one point in 1997, there were three different scripts for the movie floating around the internet (I'm not counting all the fan-made ones). The first one was written by a guy called Brannon Braga, and apparently Freddy and Jason would team up to try to rule the world. It got rejected. Another script was written by Peter Briggs, and dealt with the end of the world, which would be when the new millennium started. It got turned down because the studio thought it was too expensive to make. The third script was written by David Schow. The story was about a few lunatics, who wanted to bring back Freddy from the dead. Jason would also be brought back from beyond this life, to stop Freddy.
After that, a few other people have been mentioned as screenwriters for a possible Freddy vs Jason movie, but that never got beyond the rumour-stage.

That was all back in 1997. Now flash forward to the year 2001. Jason X (Friday the 13th part 10) is finished, and if it doesn't change, it can be seen in theaters on August 17th of this year. Because of this, the interrest in a Freddy vs Jason movie has risen again amongst the fans. Will it ever see the light of day? New Line Cinema are awaiting the box office results for Jason X, but Freddy Krueger actor Robert Englund has stated in an interview that they got a green light, and will probably begin working on the movie this year. In the meantime, fans can create their own Jason vs Freddy battle with the toys produced by McFarlane Toys, from the Movie Maniacs line.
