Very
funny BBC comedy sketch television show done by
Stephen Fry and
Hugh Laurie. It started out as a one-off half-hour show in
1987, but did well enough that the pair did four
series/
seasons in
1989,
1990,
1991 and
1995. A highlights tape is available on home video in the U.S.;
XWiz tells me that Season 1 is available on DVD in the U.K. and Season 2 will be shortly (as of April 2006).
Four books were published, one containing each season's scripts: A Bit of Fry & Laurie, A Bit More of Fry & Laurie, 3 Bits of Fry & Laurie, and Fry & Laurie - Bit No. 4. All seem to be out of print now.
Sample premises for Fry & Laurie sketches, which cannot possibly convey how incredibly funny they are:
- A man reporting a robbery to the police gives his surname as the sound of a piece of wood hitting the counter
- The father of a schoolboy is aghast that his son has been taught that "sexual intercourse can often bring about pregnancy in the adult female" -- because the father thinks this is a complete lie.
- A customer at a hardware store has a list of increasingly rude-sounding items to buy.
