Gary A. Braunbeck is a prolific horror/fantasy/mystery/science fiction writer. He was born in Newark, Ohio in the early '60s. He currently lives in Columbus, Ohio.
Over 200 of his short stories have been published in magazines and anthologies (he is a frequent contributor to anthologies edited by Martin Greenberg) In 2003, his story "Duty" won a Bram Stoker Award. In 2006, his story "We Now Pause For Station Identification" also won a Stoker. His work has been nominated for the British Fantasy Award and the International Horror Guild Award as well.
Since this writeup was first posted, he has become a user here at E2; for some of his work, visit his homenode.
He has also authored many longer works, including the novels Time Was, In Hollow Houses, The Indifference of Heaven and This Flesh Unknown and the collections Things Left Behind, Sorties, Cathexies, and Personal Effects, and Escaping Purgatory (the last a collaboration with noted horror artist Alan Clark).
Braunbeck describes himself as a "recovering Catholic" and he is a huge fan of The Who (he is often seen wearing a black Quadrophenia baseball cap). He gets many of the ideas for his horror stories (which are often set in Cedar Hill, Ohio) from his nightmares.
