Whiteyball was a playing style invented by Manager Whitey Herzog and utilized on the St. Louis Cardinals teams of the 80's that he managed to three pennants and one World Series victory. The system emphasized speed on the basepath and great defense over the longball. This worked perfectly for the Cardinals, who when he joined them had very little power hitting ("Silent" George Hendricks led the team with 19 in their series year, 1982) and Busch Stadium, a large, astroturfed field perfect for speedy gap hitters.
