(May 22) A total solar eclipse is visible in Paris and across
Italy.

Spanish King Felipe V abdicates the throne January 1 to fulfill
a religious vow. However, his son Luis I, dies soon afterwards
(August 31), and after much coaxing, Felipe is back (September 6).

Colonists in New England raid up into Maine to capture or kill a "Father
Rasle", a Jesuit priest who had been ministering to Indians in the
region.

French authorities in New Orleans enact the Code Noir which
limits manumission, prohibits interracial marriages, establishes standards
for the treatment of slaves, and on top of all of that, expels all Jews
from the colony.

Daniel Defoe publishes his novel Roxana, or the Fortunate Mistress
as well as The Complete English Tradesman, a work exalting
English traders.

Nizam-ul-Mulk defeats Mulk defeats Mubarez Khan at the Battle of
Shakar Kheda. Mulk now controls the Deccan, nominally under
Mughal suzerainty. Mulk will recive the title Asaf
Jah the next year, ruler of the Princely State of Hyderabad.
