British slang for a run-down area of a city (often a particular street) known to be frequented by street
drug dealers.
Usually a bad place to score, for the following reasons:
- Everybody knows about it, hence the Police are usually around.
- Lots of dumb kids go down there and get sold pieces of wood or Oxo cubes. Duh.
- You are likely to get ripped off or mugged due to the inherent dodgyness of street dealers.
- You will be highly unpopular with the locals, who dislike the neighbourhood being used like this and are annoyed at being constantly asked for drugs.
