Changi was a Japanese POW
camp during World War II
and was situated in Singapore
. As far as war camps go, it was a decent place. The 50 000 allied soldiers were not overworked, but were still plagued by the usual bad hygiene, under-nourishment and disease
The biggest problem in changi was boredom
and overcrowding. There was also severe sexual frustration due to lack of females.
The Australian ABC recently produced a fantastic TV series based on Changi. It was written by John Doyle of Roy and HG. It demonstrated the way the troops depended on humour and music to get them through the camp.
