This is one of the many sounds that can be heard and seen when Batman punches someone in the face. It is often reserved for more powerful hits or when a punch is landed on a villain leader character.
Whammo is not to be confused with Wakko, the lovable Animaniacs character. The name Wakko is often misspelled as Wacko.
