Backwhen a day when things didn't have to be particular, the world wide web used uniform resource locators (URLs) to locate documents; however, now URLs are known as URIs. A URL is of the form protocol:server/directory/file. For example in the URL (http://everything.slashdot.org/everytinh.pl), the protocol is HTTP, the server is everything.slashdot.org, and the file is everything.pl.

URL is also a Java class describing URL's (duh!).Has several public constructors, all of which throw MalFormedURLException.
While just having a URL object isn't very exciting, one can use the methods openStrem, openConnection and getContent to access the resources itself, not only its name.

URL /U-R-L/ or /erl/ n.

Uniform Resource Locator, an address widget that identifies a document or resource on the World Wide Web. This entry is here primarily to record the fact that the term is commonly pronounced both /erl/, and /U-R-L/ (the latter predominates in more formal contexts).
