A term that refers to Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey and Birute Galdikas. These three women are known for the primate they specialized in, specifically the Great Apes. Goodall is the leading primatologist in chimpanzee research, Fossey in gorilla research and Galdikas in orangutan research. Each of these women were initially under the wing of Dr. Louis Leakey, famous for his findings at Olduvai Gorge.

Press and scientists alike call these three women the trimates as a quick reference. If ever in a lecture, class or article you see this term used, you'll know that it concerns them.
