The
Roman equivalent of a
fast-food restaurant. Yes, the
Romans had
fast-food before the
modern era.
Food and
drink would be
cooked beforehand and kept in large
pots, from which they would be
served to the
customers. A
common dish (or acutally, the
lack thereof, as
dishes weren't even used) was a
beef patty that had
spices rubbed into it and was then
grilled. It would then be placed between two
slices of
bread (
sliced
bread isn't an
invention, you know) so that it would be
easily
portable. Seems somewhat like a
hamburger, wouldn't you say?
All sorts of crap had already been invented before said crap emerged in modern society. Keep in mind that the Romans had public lavvys too. They also used a sponge on a stick instead of toilet paper, but that's another story...
